Dr Suresh Gairola is India Country Director of Forest Stewardship Council. FSC promotes responsible forest management globally through its sustainability solutions and engagements.  He has made significant contributions in developing FSC forest management standards for India and promoting sustainable forest-based value chains.

A former Indian Forest Service officer, he has vast experience of four decades in forest management, wildlife conservation, public policy, environmental law, and forestry research.  He has worked on important assignments with Government of India including Director General-Indian Council of Forestry Research and Education, and Additional Director General of Forests (Wildlife). With Government of Maharashtra, he has held the key positions of Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (Head of Forest Force) and Managing Director-Forest Development Corporation.
